Mount Maunganui enjoys a unique position between harbour and ocean with pleasant safe beaches within walking distance of each other. The golden sands of the ocean beach and the impressive surf of the Pacific makes the main Mount beach a popular surf spot year round.

Tiny rugged Moturiki Island, just a short stroll across the causeway from the beach enjoys excellent views of the ocean and spectacular geyser-like displays from "The Blow Hole" when big seas are running. Fishermen too are drawn to the deep waters beneath its rocky shore.

The pristine sands have long been a Mecca for holidaymakers and adrenaline junkies alike. As a main centre for summertime activities, 'The Mount' hosts everything from surf lifesaving events to beach volleyball, parasailing, sandcastle building and local and national surf contests.
