New Zealand has reputation for the scenic beauty

Mount Maunganui the air and water are clear and clean and the view from the top of the Mount is well worth the climb! The sun rises unobstructed from the Pacific Ocean and sets among the Kaimai Ranges in a welter of tangerine, violet and charcoal hues.
The extinct volcano Mauao is not only a magnificent landmark, but also a major tourist attraction at Mount Maunganui. Immensely popular are the walking tracks around the base of the Mount and to its summit from which extensive views of the Bay of Plenty can be enjoyed.
For more than six centuries the Mount was occupied by local Maori people and habitation terraces, storage pits, defence ditches, bank systems and middens are still visible today.
The wide base track takes around 45 minutes to walk, with views of ocean and inner harbour
