What a wave Hard out tell my feet
got cold are you in or just being shy
Hapigirl I am wanting for you
From the moment you enter its western end at Waihi Beach, a golden
ribbon weaves along a trail of sights, culture, attractions and
adventure. Native bush backdrops a glorious stretch of the Pacific Coast
highway, but it's a mere glimpse of the Bay's full tapestry
In summer, the region hums as people flock to the famous beaches at
Mount Maunganui, Waihi and Papamoa. Each is unique: Waihi has safe
swimming, family atmosphere and bush walks; the Mount buzzes with
dawn-to-dusk excitement and entertainment, while the golden stretch to
Maketu serves up surf-casting by the mile and shellfish in abundance.
Yet, scattered throughout this coast, you'll find superb inlets and
secluded spaces - it's simply a matter of exploring.
The majestic mountain of Mauao is this area's undeniable heartbeat
and dominates the Bay's horizon. The craggy cone of this volcanic
isthmus rises 232 metres above the sea and guards one of only two
entrances to the Tauranga Harbour. The Bowentown Headland - the bookend
to this aquatic playground is a smaller sentinel, buts sentry
nonetheless. Both are historical sites and of great cultural
significance to Maori. They have been homes, fortresses and watch-guards
for generations and today, draw thousands to roam among the middens and
pa sites of yester-year.
